Quick Tip: enabling a LAMP server on Ubuntu “desktop” 8.04

Something useful I noticed today is that you can install MySQL, PHP, and Apache onto the Ubuntu “desktop” easily with the following:

sudo tasksel install lamp-server

Found in the Ubuntu Community Documentation.
A quick way to get a development environment up nice and quick!

CTP’s, Beta’s and Releases

It looks like everyone is busy this week:
The PowerShell Team have released a CTP of 2.0.
Skype have released Beta 2.0 for Linux (finally bringing video!)
SDM Software have released a set of free cmdlets full of GPO goodness!
And even though it wasn’t technically this week, Microsoft’s Deployment4, was officially named Microsoft Deployment, and went to RC1.

Ubuntu’s The Fridge and 10 days of “Rocking features”

In the count down to Ubuntu’s next release, The Fridge are doing “10 Rocking Features in 10 Days” where they are highlighting some of the new features that will be available in Ubuntu 7.10.
My favourite so far, was yesterdays highlight about the new Bulletproof X and Graphical X configuration feature. Anything to make configuring/troubleshooting [...]
